WELCOME TO THE RESIDENCE HALLS!
Upon arriving at your residence hall, you will meet your Hall Director (HD) and Resident Assistant (RA). They are all students at Eastern who have experience living in the residence halls. In addition, they are people you can count on to help you feel welcome and at home. If you find yourself needing assistance of any kind, your RA is there to help. Whether you need advice regarding relationships or just where your favorite fast food can be found, they will help you find the answer.
What you can expect from your Resident Assistant (RA):
- To be a RESOURCE either by having the answers or knowing where to get them.
- To be a LISTENER and then ask questions that will help clarify problems.
- To be ACCEPTING of others and appreciate differences of beliefs, cultures, and lifestyles.
- To hold students ACCOUNTABLE for their actions and behavior.
- To CONFRONT inappropriate behavior that infringes on the rights of the community.
- To provide EDUCATIONAL opportunites to discuss current issues and topics relevent to today's world.
- To provide SOCIAL opportunities to interact with other residents.
What you can not expect from your Resident Assistant (RA):
- To patrol the halls for violations-if things are too loud, it is your responsibility to ask other floor members to quiet down.
- To always be on the floor-they have other obligations (like class, clubs, and friends) away from the residence hall.
- To solve your problems for you-you must make your own decisions; they will listen and offer assistance if possible.
- To look the other way on policy violations-you will be responsible for your actions.
- To never make mistakes-we are all human.
HALL DIRECTORS and RESIDENT ASSISTANTS
The Hall Directors (HD), located in every building, are in charge of their staff of Resident Assistants (RA's) who are located on every floor. Even though the HD's do not have a specific floor assignment, they are there to help all the residents in the building if necessary.
