BIOGRAPHY
Following a year at a local community college, I graduated Humboldt State University with B.S. degrees in Range Management and Wildlife Management. My love of learning allowed me to pursue and earn the M.S in Rangeland Resources at Oregon State University. I worked a few years for the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife as a Research Biologist before returning to school at OSU. My PhD dissertation examined ecological relationships among feral horses, cattle and pronghorn in Oregon’s high desert.
I love my role as instructor and advisor at Eastern Oregon University. The OSU Agriculture Program allows students to earn a degree from Oregon’s Land Grant University while attending a school with a small, home-town atmosphere. I feel this gives me a better opportunity to know students and help them develop skills necessary to compete for jobs and graduate education. EOU is located in northeastern Oregon near forests and rangelands that allow easy access for class field trips. |
COURSES TAUGHT
“Principles of Animal Nutrition” - ANS 311 – An introduction to animal nutrition that examines the classification, digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients in animals.
“Career Orientation” – RNG 301 – Explores careers in natural resources, curriculum requirements and job-seeking skills. Includes a workshop in which you will interact with natural resource professionals.
“Rangeland Ecology & Management” – RNG 341 – Introductory class that examines the nature and management of rangeland ecosystems. Field trips included.
“Wildland Plant Identification” - RNG 353 – Learn about important plants of US rangelands.
“Wildland Restoration and Ecology” – RNG 421 – Use your knowledge of ecology to design management practices that help repair degraded rangelands. Includes field trip.
“Range-Animal Relations” – RNG 442 – Study the ecology and management of rangeland animals and their habitats, including livestock and wildlife. Includes field trip. “Range Management Planning” – RNG 490 – A capstone course that examines laws, planning models, agency administration, conflict resolution, personnel management, personal skills necessary for decision-making. Field trip required. |
RESEARCH INTERESTS
I have varied research interests. My background is in large herbivore ecology and I have been able to pursue research related to rangeland-animal nutrition and the impacts of cattle grazing on rangeland ecosystems. I have also collaborated with others to explore the ecology and management of rangeland noxious weeds. A special interest has allowed me to publish articles on the needs of undergraduate education in rangeland science. |
