MODERN LANGUAGES
OBJECTIVES
- To provide study in German
and Spanish languages, literature, culture and civilization.
- To provide language courses
for the Language and Logic requirement as well as courses in literature,
culture and civilization for the Humanities requirement in General Education.
- To offer language courses
which fulfill the institutional graduation requirements for the Bachelor
of Arts degree and support pre-professional and Liberal Arts degree
programs.
- To prepare elementary and
secondary teachers of German and Spanish.
- To provide subject concentrations
in German and Spanish for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies.
- To offer study in Spanish
required for the Bilingual Education program.
- To offer coursework in German
and Spanish applicable toward the International Studies Minor.
- To prepare students for
study abroad programs.
OTHER PROGRAMS
The degree available with an
emphasis in Modern Language is:
BA in Liberal Studies (concentration
in German or Spanish.). Students pursuing a Liberal Studies degree will
be required to complete a capstone project appropriate to their area.
The capstone project should be selected in consultation with the project
advisor no later than the end of the junior year to provide ample time
for completion. While the focus of the capstone will vary, it is expected
that the capstone will be well researched and properly documented according
to the guidelines of the Modern Language Association or other accepted
bibliographic format.
Upon completion of the capstone, the student will prepare a formal defense
of the project.
