Q: What exactly is the Honors Program?
A: It's an opportunity for students to explore their creative potential through independent projects, while working closely one-on-one with faculty and staff mentors.
Q: Do I have to be super-smart to be an Honors student?
A: While a record of superior accomplishment is expected, you don't have to be the next Einstein to be an Honors student! The most important requirements are for you to be a hard-working, self-motivated person.
Q: What are the benefits to joining the Honors Program?
A: You get to become a part of a community of scholars, like yourself, who are all interested in getting the most out of their college experience. You'll receive an Honors Baccalaureate Degree upon successful completion of University graduation requirements and the Honors Program requirements.
Q: What are the requirements for joining the Honors Program?
A: You must complete HONR 201 Honors Orientation Seminar with a grade of "B" or better and have a cumulative EOU GPA of at least 3.50.
Q: What are the requirements for completing the Honors Program?
A: You must complete two Honors classes (HONR 201 and HONR 301), one independent project of your choice, one independent project associated with your major's capstone, join a professional or honorary society, and give a presentation at a professional conference. Q: Does it cost money to join the Honors Program?
A: No! Admission is absolutely free.
Q: Is there an Honors Club on campus?
A: Some Honors students are currently working to start an Honors Club. If you are interested in participating, please contact Leah Hess, who is organizing the effort.
Q: Is there an Honors student listserv?
A: Yes! It is eou-honors@eou.edu. If you are an Honors student who is not on the listserv, just send Jeff Woodford an email and he'll add you to the list.
Q: How do I indicate my desire to join the Honors Program?
A: Just send an email to Jeff Woodford, Honors Co-Director. He'll check to make sure you meet the qualifications, and if you do, then he'll add you to the list!
