Welcome to
A website designed and created by
Eastern Oregon University students
In Dr. Rebecca Hartman’s
History 410 Class
This website represents the scholarly work and intellectual journey of a group of rather courageous students who walked into my History 410 class expecting to ‘be taught’ American history and instead, spent 10 weeks tackling the challenges and problems of actually doing history—independently and collaboratively researching, reflecting and writing about the roles of peace and military conflict in history.
As if that were not a daunting enough task—and one from which many a pragmatic college student might flee—the students also undertook to transform their own learning into a teaching tool by creating a content-driven website. In designing this course, I hoped to give students two primary opportunities: one was to actively engage in the often messy work of intellectual inquiry; and two, to have a chance to develop the kinds of working skills they might use outside of the classroom.
