Presidential Candidates

Claudia Plesa

It is very important for me to be involved as a senator, as I love being an active element on this campus, and this would be a way for me to actively make decisions and changes on this campus.  I bring in an international background, and am very involved with the international students on campus, as well as other minority groups such as the Women’s Center and the Gay Straight Alliance.  Helping make suggestions from these backgrounds will help maintain a diverse campus, in which students from all backgrounds will feel represented, respected and listened to.

The issue of diversity is very important to me,  and I would love to make this campus a place more inviting to students from all backgrounds and belief systems.  The way to make changes on this campus is respect other’s opinions and beliefs, and thus illicit a similar response from them.  So when everyone is listened to, change is easier to accomplish.  It is also very important to make sure students are given a wide variety of opportunities to get involved.  This will definitely increase the student population, and they will spread the word to others as to how great this university is.

I am involved with several campus groups and clubs, including the International Student Association, the Gay Straight Alliance, and the Women’s Center.  As an officer of the ISA, this will possibly take the biggest chunk of my time, but this will not deter me from being fully involved in activities with the Senate.  Although all these activities take up a portion of my time, they are very important and add a new aspect to being a good Senator.
