Mario Olivares
Being a Senator is important to me because I want to make a big difference in the student community. I want to understand the structure of this organization so that I can dedicate my time to help the Student Government of the Associated Students of Eastern Oregon University accomplish its goals. The qualities which distinguish me from other applicants are my solid background in sociology and gender studies and my involvement in many student clubs. Additionally, I am a passionate person who believes in equality across race, gender and class.
When I am elected my biggest focus will be on creating more awareness of and appreciation for diversity. I believe that diversity encompasses more than just people of color; it is about the acceptance of people with different cultures and beliefs. Because the college is a large part of the community, it is important for Eastern Oregon University and the community to become one team with one dream.
I am an active participant in university clubs and events. My current activities include Black Student Union, Empactico Latino, Alliance for Social Change, and the EOU Democrats. Although these clubs demand a good portion of my free time, I have excellent time management skills. When I am elected Senator, my position in the ASEOU Student Government will be my top priority.
