Three areas that I will focus on as Senator are representative legislation concerning student issues, support of and education about diversity, and advocating for community outreach. I believe these are important issues that, when addressed, will enhance students’ experiences at EOU and strengthen positive relations between the university and the surrounding community.
My election to the Student Government of the Associated Students of Eastern Oregon University will benefit the Student Government, my educational and professional pursuits, and the EOU community. The Student Government is an organization which strives to “advance the educational, social, and cultural experience of students1 …” I have a unique background and a sincere dedication to representing the interests of the student body at EOU. This will contribute positively to the Student Government by introducing a perspective that is fresh, yet coincides with the educational, social, and cultural goals of the ASEOU Student Government. My experience in this organization will help me to learn skills in representation and institutional policy. Because I am a student of social sciences, this will better prepare me for the future by helping me to become more familiar with organized processes both within and outside of the university.

I am currently president of the new EOU Democrats, and I am a member of the Black Student Union and the Alliance for Social Change. Although I am wholly dedicated to my part inleadership and participation in these groups, I will not allow any of these activities to interfere with the time and devotion that I will put in to serving a s ASEOU Student Government Senator.
