I have been lucky enough to be involved with the ASEOU Student Government now for the past two years, serving as a Senator Representative for the Student Body. It’s the one opportunity that has allowed me to be actively involved in the making of important decisions regarding student’s rights and keeping those around me informed to the best of my ability. Two years has brought a lot of progress in making sure that the student voice isn’t trampled on even when difficult decisions and situations have arisen within the University/State etc. involving continuing education. I feel that I have the experience to continue this progressive ideal to bring about what is best for the students here at Eastern Oregon University.
One of the greatest challenges that we have faced this year as a student body is the fact that our University had to make drastic changes and rearrangements of several programs and departments. The new plan of action should be on track to bring us up to where we are supposed to be in the next 3 years. I would like to make sure that student voices are heard on a continuous basis as this takes place.
Also, with the election coming up this fall, I feel that we should have our voices heard on a larger level than just EOU, that we should all vote in the election. All of us within ASEOU feel that this issue is important and want to get the word out to all students that they have a right to vote.
Finally, I would like to continue to promote the effort between the student clubs across campus in bringing a greater sense of connection between all groups to communicate, operate and work together. In the last year the ties between clubs and student organizations has become more tightly woven and I hope that I can continue to be a part of this for another year as a student senator! I personally feel that this is very important to our University community.
Speaking of clubs, I am involved in the EOU Chamber Choir, EOU Opera Club, and Oregon East Magazine when I am not busy with school where I study Art, Music and Spanish. My degree program keeps me reasonably busy but I am willing to put the time and effort into another year working with ASEOU!
